A proper home for beautiful bakes

Brown’s Bakes is an established local business creating beautifully finished cakes and cupcakes for special occasions. Previously, customers relied on Facebook to discover the business and see its work.

Alanah chose a simple website that brings everything together: her cakes, the occasions she caters for and an easy way to enquire. I designed it around her existing branding, giving the website the same personality as the business.

Keeping the running costs down was part of the brief. Beyond the initial website build, her domain costs £9 a year. Hosting uses Cloudflare Pages’ Free plan, and enquiries use Web3Forms’ Free plan, which currently includes up to 250 submissions a month.

The finished website gives Alanah one clear link to share with customers, including people who don’t use Facebook. Visitors can browse her work and send an enquiry from one place.

And after the build?

Your domain is yours, registered in your name and paid by you directly. Allow around £10 a year, depending on the name, provider and renewal price.

For a simple site, I can use Cloudflare Pages Free hosting and Web3Forms Free, currently up to 250 form submissions a month. These are third-party plans with their own limits and terms, which can change.

No monthly fee to me. Small adjustments are included for 30 days after launch. Later changes or extra features are agreed and priced before work begins.

We have a proper chat

We spend about an hour talking about what you do, who you help and what people need to know. Photos from your phone are fine.

I put it together

I shape the words, layout and photos into a site that works on a phone. We choose useful enquiry questions so customers know what to send you.

I get everything connected

Once you’re happy with the design, I connect your domain, set up hosting and test your enquiry form. For a straightforward website, I can currently use Cloudflare Pages’ Free plan for hosting and Web3Forms’ Free plan for up to 250 enquiries a month.

Your accounts belong to you. I explain any ongoing costs before we start, and if your needs grow beyond a free plan, we discuss the options first.

Why this matters to me

My dad deserved a website that felt like him.

Dad was a carpenter. He knew his business could use a website, and eventually he found the courage to ask a company to make one. What came back was big and glossy. It didn’t sound like him or show the work he actually did.

He never put it live. Dad wasn’t comfortable with technology, and that experience put him off trying again. He’s retired now, and the chance to give his business a useful home online has gone.

I don’t want another person to give it a go once and come away feeling a website just isn’t for them. That’s why I listen first and make something you can recognise as yours.

Do I need to write everything?

No. You tell me about your business and I help turn that conversation into clear words. You check the details before anything goes live.

Can I still use Facebook?

Absolutely. Your website gives you a consistent place to send people, and it can link to your Facebook page.

Who owns the website and domain?

Your domain is registered in your name. I provide the finished website files and help you understand where the site is hosted, so you have a copy of your site.

Can you make an online shop or booking system?

These packages are for simple information and enquiry websites. Tell me what you need and I’ll explain whether it fits, or needs a different approach and price.

What if I want something changed later?

Small adjustments are included for 30 days after launch. After that, we agree the work and any cost before I start.
